Homeschool Charters- 8 reasons why charters might be your best option

Are you ready to jump into homeschooling, today?

If you are looking to benefit from the most freedom in homeschooling as possible, a charter will not likely be your best option. However, if you are looking to quickly dive into the benefits of starting a home education, with assistance including guided curriculum and state requirement management, a charter may be an excellent choice!

Public (home learning) Charter schools follow your state’s curriculum objectives, within the homeschooling model. In this option via my home state of Oregon:

πŸ’› All materials (including devices, books, manipulatives, art requirements, etc.) and curriculum are FREE and provided to each learner.
πŸ’› All mandatory requirements are managed by the charter (including the grading of work, testing, and curriculum).

πŸ’› A teacher is assigned to your child for weekly check ins with open office hours, if needed.

πŸ’› Your at home learning expectation is the same as the homeschool day of 1-3 hours for primary years!

As a former educator and school administrator, we LOVED starting our homeschool journey with a charter! Not only did this get us off on the right foot with multiple grade levels in the home, but we experienced many hidden gems of charters, that are NOT often talked about, including:

πŸ’› The option to OPT OUT of curriculum that did not fit our family.

πŸ’› Time in the day to supplement the charter’s curriculum with rich learning (including unit studies, foreign languages, music, nature studies, and so much more).

πŸ’› Flexibility in our daily schedule with assigned work NOT due until the end of each quarter.

πŸ’› The ability to bump our children up (or down) a grade level in specific areas, depending on their abilities and needs.

While the above outlines a charter in Oregon, every state will have a variance of at-home charter offerings!
