As a homeschooling mom, I'm always on the lookout for resources that are not only educational but also engaging for my children. That's why I was thrilled to discover Interland, a free online game developed by Google. Interland is a part of Google's Be Internet Awesome program, designed to help kids learn about internet safety and digital citizenship in a fun and interactive way. With National Internet Safety Day around the corner, I wanted to share this fantastic resource with other parents and educators.

Exploring the different islands of interland

Interland is an adventure-packed online game that makes learning about internet safety interactive and enjoyable. The game is set in a virtual world composed of four islands, each focusing on a different aspect of internet safety.

  1. Mindful Mountain

This island focuses on teaching children the importance of being careful about sharing information online. It emphasizes the concept of thinking before sharing and the potential consequences of oversharing personal information.

  2. Reality River

This part of the game deals with phishing and scams. Here, kids learn how to spot and avoid scams by understanding the tricks that scammers use. It's a great way to teach critical thinking and how to be skeptical of things they might encounter online.

  3. Kind Kingdom

On this island, the focus is on being kind and positive online. It addresses the issue of cyberbullying and teaches kids how to deal with negative behavior on the internet. It's an excellent resource for fostering empathy and understanding the impact of our words and actions online.

  4. Tower of Treasure

This final island is all about safeguarding valuable information. It educates children on the importance of creating strong passwords and keeping personal information secure.

Interland is not just a game but a comprehensive educational experience. Each island is filled with interactive puzzles and challenges that are both fun and informative. The game is designed to be accessible for children aged 7 and up, making it an excellent tool for teaching these critical concepts at an early age.

As a parent, I appreciate that Interland is ad-free and doesn't require any personal information to play. It's a safe and secure environment for kids to explore and learn!

As we celebrate National Internet Safety Day, let's take this opportunity to empower our children with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the online world safely and confidently. Check out Interland and start the journey towards being Internet Awesome!
